3 Interior Design Trends That Never Go Out Of Style

We know that trends come and go, and while we often adapt elements of what we love to create our dream home aesthetic, there will always be those timeless colours and design features that will never go out of style, and in turn, provide the foundations of a solid interior design scheme.

Manuela Hamilford, Founder and Creative Director of London-based interior design studio, Hamilford Design, always recommends these top three fail-safe trends that you can trust will never go out of fashion.

‘Once this foundational work is completed, you won’t have to undertake any major work again, as these timeless components can always be built upon in different ways,’ she explains. ‘They provide a classic base, a look which is transitional and can be simply modified further down the line.’

Shaker-style cabinetry is always a reliable and stylish choice in any home, working well in both in traditional and contemporary interiors. Typically constructed from wood, traditional shaker kitchen cabinet doors – consisting of a recessed panel and a four-piece wood frame – are distinctly minimal with understated clean lines.

‘Shaker-style cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms is a transitional design that can easily adapt to any aesthetic,’ Manuela says. ‘The style lends itself well to fit in with a modern, contemporary design, or a cosy country-inspired space.’

For a contemporary take, the House Beautiful Westbourne Kitchen at Homebase is the perfect hybrid of modern and traditional, combining classic Shaker lines and a streamlined handle-free look.

Grey-Based Colour Palettes

Nowadays, the mention of grey is almost as controversial as magnolia once was, but whether you’re team ‘yes’ or ‘no’, Manuela says choosing a grey-based colour scheme for your home is an expert choice that will still appeal in years to come. From the soft and relaxing light greys to the warm and cosy darker hues, this versatile colour will add a sense of elegance to any home.

‘The colour grey is always great to use around the house, especially for those who haven’t quite decided which design direction to go in for their home. It can be adapted to be warm or cold, and for a variety of different aesthetics, from minimalist Scandinavian to traditional farmhouse,’ Manuela explains. ‘It certainly appeals to buyers when it comes to selling a home, as it’s a hue that can easily be built upon and made your own.’

Dark Bronze Fixtures & Fittings

Stainless steel and chrome fixtures in bathrooms and kitchens are often the obvious choice, but you’ll never go wrong with bronze; an alloy composed of copper and tin. It’s exceptionally durable, easy to keep clean, and it will always add a classic yet striking aesthetic in your space.

Manuela explains: ‘Dark bronze fixtures and fittings are a completely timeless look around the home, and always helps to add a bit of luxury and glamour. Chrome can fall in and out of fashion, but bronze will always elevate the look of a space. Bronze also complements a variety of colour schemes, such as those featuring crisp whites, rich burgundy and classic dark green.’
