Home decor store Rustic Whimsy opens in Scotia – Times-Standard

A new business has opened its doors in Scotia. The new business is called Rustic Whimsy and it is located near the Scotia Post Office. The official address is 120 Main Street and the first day of operation was May 14.

Business owner Angela Hunt has stocked her store with new and used merchandise including but not limited to home décor, furniture, Dixie Belle paint and products, as well as gift items such as lotions, candles, hats, earrings, bags and local Dick Taylor chocolate.

“The diverse and unique mix of merchandise provides a nice selection for the community and tourists to shop in the town of Scotia,” Hunt said.

Describing herself as a “junker,” Hunt said the inventory will constantly change depending on what she finds on her “junkin” adventures. Hunt said she has been this way since she was a young girl.

“When I was young my mom Winnie was really budget-conscious, so we clipped coupons and shopped at thrift stores and yard sales,” Hunt said. “I continued this habit into my adult life and found it to be a great way to save money and is very enjoyable.”

Hunt said she and friend Larissa Richardson of Humboldt Junkies occasionally travel outside the local area to find things for her Rustic Whimsy store in Scotia.

“It’s a real adventure and treasure hunt and we never know what we are going to find,” Hunt said.

Hunt hopes eventually to offer classes at her store and help others learn how to save money and reinvent their furniture and décor. She describes her love of junk as contagious and hopes her classes will teach and inspire others to upcycle, update their décor and to explore their creativity.

The current hours of operation for Rustic Whimsey are Wednesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hunt said she is considering a grand opening/ribbon cutting celebration in the next few weeks. She said the best way to stay up to date on store merchandise, hours and special sales is to follow the store on Facebook.
